The intersection of Route 17 and Woods Cross Road, which is located in the northern part of Gloucester, has been a subject of concern over the years. The Virginia Department of Transportation will have a design public hearing next week regarding the proposed project for improvements to this particular intersection.
VDOT will hold this in-person meeting on Thursday, July 18, on the Glenns Campus of Rappahannock Community College. A presentation will be delivered at 5:15 p.m.
The proposal seeks to reduce the risk of crashes, injuries and fatalities in the intersection of Route 17 and Route 610 (Woods Cross Road/Davenport Road) intersection in Gloucester by removing the left turns and through movements at the intersection. All side street approaches would begin with a right turn. Drivers would turn right onto Route 17 at the intersection before making a U-turn at designated locations, which are approximately 700 feet from the intersection.
