A work van belonging to a Mathews resident was destroyed by fire while parked next to the gas tanks at the 7-Eleven on Cricket Hill Road in Hudgins on Saturday. The driver was not in the truck at the time and was uninjured. Three engines and one tanker from Mathews Volunteer Fire Department responded. Mathews Fire Chief Ronnie Lewis said the cause of the fire was mechanical problems with the engine.
