The Captain Sinclair Recreational Area in Gloucester has been the subject of controversy recently, with the Gloucester High School Crew Team Booster Club raising an issue with students sharing the space with two organizations that work with veterans.
A conflict resolution session is set for Monday involving the booster club, Knott Alone-Hold Fast, Meridian Health, and an independent moderator.
The issue was brought before the Gloucester Board of Supervisors at the March 6 meeting, a recording of which is available online. Jack Moore, president of the GHS Booster Club, said that the Captain Sinclair Landing “stands on a precipice of change” and that a discussion was needed regarding the changing uses of the property. The GHS crew uses the facility, practicing on the Severn River.
The club’s vice president, Dr. Jeff Buswell, said that “a private, for-profit” will be using the facility six to seven hours a day, five days a week and sometimes on Saturday to facilitate outpatient counseling...
