The Augustine Warner chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution welcomed Chief William Frank Adams of the Upper Mattaponi Tribe to its September meeting, which was held at the Abingdon Episcopal Church parish house, White Marsh. He was accompanied by his sister, Connie Lovelace, and friend Tommy Glaum.
Adams began his tenure as chief in January 2016 after serving as assistant chief for 20 years. He is a lifelong member of Indian View Baptist Church, and part owner and operator of the Glenwood Golf Club in Henrico.
Adams attended Sharon Indian School for much of his education. Once the public schools in King William County integrated, he completed his education at King William High School. He was a member of the first graduating class at Rappahannock Community College.
His community involvement includes serving on the King William County Board of Supervisors from 2004 to 2008. He was the first Native American elected to that position in King William.
