Nicole Pinder, third from left, is the winner of the 2021 Captain Sally Tompkins UDC Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. The daughter of UDC member Gwen Wood and granddaughter of Cliff and Susan Pinder, all of Gloucester, Nicole was honored during a recent luncheon at the Mathews Yacht Club. She will attend Longwood University, her parents’ alma mater, in the fall, majoring in nursing. Her essay was on medical practices from the 1860s until now. Her great-great-great-grandfather was Nicholas Harrison Pyle, Co. D 5th Regiment of the Mississippi Infantry.
