Two Hayes businesses join forces to spread Christmas joy to storm victims

More than 30 bikes and 2,500 toys were collected for those affected by Hurricane Helene, the September storm that caused widespread catastrophic damage throughout the southeastern U.S., bringing some Christmas joy to the children in the midst of their sorrow.
Marsha Weatherwax, owner of Weatherwax Insurance Agency of Hayes, ran the Appalachian Toy Hauler of Gloucester County efforts, with the help of Jennifer Jernigan and Jennifer Whitley.
In addition to the bikes and toys, some of the other things collected included clothing, coloring books and hygiene items. The items collected were loaded onto a truck on Friday and delivered to the families by The Other Moving Company, a local moving company, also located in Hayes.
“Thank you to my friends, my family, neighbors, WXGM, the Abingdon Ruritan Club, Helping the Homeless Ministry, Susan Fary Finkel, countless amazing individuals, The Other Moving Company, and Gloucester County for bringing joy to so many kids,” said Weatherwax.
