Large sheepshead caught in local waters have earned multiple citations for two Gloucester residents.
Chris Robins of Hayes, received citations from the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament for a 10-pound, five-ounce fish caught Aug. 27, and a 10-pound, 9-ounce fish caught Aug. 26, both in the lower York River.
Success also struck Jay Brown of Hayes, whose 10-pound, 12-ounce sheepshead and 12-pound, 5-ounce fish both were caught Aug. 23 in the lower York River.
Other citations recently announced included Billy Flippin of Bena, a 10-pound, 9-ounce sheepshead caught Aug. 26 in the bay; Jeff Wehrung of Hayes, a release citation earned Aug. 26 for a sailfish caught while trolling in 100 fathom waters offshore; and Brian Hogge of Gloucester, won a citation for the catch of a 10-pound, 9-ounce sheepshead Aug. 17 at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.
