Two May art exhibits at the RAL Art Center, located at 19 North Main Street in Kilmarnock, opened last week and will remain on display until Saturday, June 1.
The first exhibit with 36 entries is the fourth Annual Art in Transit competition, a joint fundraiser with Bay Transit. Judging by Jeffrey Allison of the Virginia Museum of Fine Art and Barbara Brecher of Brecher Design Group has been completed. The announcement of winners will occur at a special awards reception on Friday, May 31, when a copy of the first-place winner’s art will be revealed on the side of a Bay Transit bus. The reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.
The RAL members’ open exhibit, “Hip to Be Square,” includes 39 original art works, including paintings, photography, fiber, glass, and sculpture. Marilyn Sprouse, an art teacher in Lancaster County Public Schools, judged the exhibit. Sprouse holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fine Art with an endorsement to teach. She has been teaching,...
