Tropical Pancake & Waffle House opened for business Friday. The restaurant, located on Main Street in a building that previously housed a Mexican restaurant, serves breakfast and lunch.
Alan Gutierrez, his brother-in-law Hector Benitez Sr., and Benitez’s son, Hector Benitez Jr. own the new business. All reside in Williamsburg.
The menu includes an assortment of pancakes, waffles and French toast, all served with a variety of fruit and nut toppings. Blueberry waffles and omelets were big sellers during the opening weekend, Gutierrez said.
The restaurant, which is currently open for breakfast and lunch, also features steaks, corned beef hash, T-bone steaks, taco salads, a large selection of subs (including "the Gringo," with ham, bacon and Swiss cheese, and a steak sub with melted provolone cheese, grilled green peppers and onions).
