Guinea Heritage Association’s Fourth Fridays program continues this Friday, April 25, with a talk from Sidney Ripley, museum specialist at the Gloucester Museum of History. Ripley will share the stories of nine trailblazing and daring women who broke barriers to build a better future in the military, at home, and in civil rights.
Several of these women are also featured in a mural on Gloucester’s Main Street, commissioned by the Cook Foundation representing 250 years of women in and from Gloucester contributing to the county, Virginia, and the United States of America.
A 2020 graduate of Radford University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Museum Studies, Ripley is working on her master’s at Harvard Extension School. The Gloucester native enjoys research, local stories and social history.
The program will be held at Buck’s Store Museum, 8850 Guinea Road, Bena, from 6-7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
