Beginning Monday, there will be a new traffic pattern at the intersection of Route 14 and Windsor Road in Mathews.
According to a press release from the Virginia Department of Transportation, the westbound lanes on Route 14 will close at Windsor Road in order for construction to continue on that side of the bridge over Burke Mill Stream. All traffic headed toward Gloucester will shift to the eastbound lanes. This will result in one-lane traffic for vehicles heading in both directions.
Drivers heading east on Route 14 will continue to be able to turn left onto Windsor Road, while drivers on Windsor Road will still be prohibited from turning left onto Route 14, said the release.
The rehabilitation project, which began in July, will replace the westbound deck, beams, bridge railings, guardrails and asphalt. It will also improve drainage, environmental controls, and slopes near the 76-year-old structure, said the release.
