TOGA to hold spat sale, oyster gardening training

The Tidewater Oyster Gardeners Association will hold a spat sale and deliver training on how to grow your own oysters at the Deltaville Maritime Museum Holly Point Market, 287 Jackson Creek Road, Deltaville, from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 26.
With the two-hour training beginning at 10 a.m., prospective future oyster gardeners will learn everything they need to know to start growing their own oysters. Local spat vendors will be selling Triploid and Diploid spat (baby oysters).
Displays at the TOGA tent will feature equipment such as cages and floats, tumblers, spat bags, and the newest high velocity water cages needed in some fast-flowing rivers and shorelines subject to storm waves. Master Oyster Gardeners will be available to provide advice.
To register for the training, email Carl Zulick at czulick@verizon.net or call 703-424-6001.
