"Down on the Farm," an opportunity for the public to visit an active farm, will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. next Saturday, April 13, at Timberneck Farm at Hayes.

This will be the first time that Tidewater Soil & Water Conservation District has been in charge of the tour, said district manager LaVerne Calhoun. For a number of years, the former Resource & Conservation District Council coordinated the tours, with assistance from TSWCD, with the last such tour held in 2007.

There will be lots of things to see and do. As a special feature, Ben Borden of the Gloucester Historical Society will speak to guests throughout the day at Timberneck Hall, the original house on the property that was built in 1805. Timberneck Farm, located off Borden Road and overlooking the York River, was originally part of a 1639 land grant from England that encompasses 1,100 acres of farmland, timber, marsh and Catlett Islands.
