The Tidewinders, a locally-based band that plays hard-driving bluegrass, poignant ballads, and classic favorites, will headline the Virginia Homegrown Bluegrass Festival, to be held beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Flat Iron Crossroads, Gloucester.
Known for its traditional instrumentation of banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, dobro and bass, the Tidewinders create a classic sound of bluegrass, but with a modern flair, said a press release.
Also in the lineup are Bill Jenkins & The Virginia Mountain Boys, and Rappa-hannock Crossing.
Bill Jenkins & the Virginia Mountain Boys has been performing for over 40 years, said the release. Jenkins was inducted into the Virginia Music Hall of Fame in 2014 for his many contributions to the preservation of traditional, old time, and gospel music. The band brings to life the authentic folk music of the southern Appalachian Mountains, playing unique harmonies and captivating arrangements to create “a rollicking good time.”
