Tidewater Taxes opens in Gloucester Court House

“I focus on individual taxes and small businesses.”

Just in time for tax season, Catherine Ronquest has opened Tidewater Taxes in Suite 4 of 7335 Lewis Avenue, located directly off Main Street.

“I love numbers,” said Ronquest.

While attending Gloucester High School, she meant to take astronomy but instead signed up for accounting. This led to her taking more accounting courses, ultimately driving her to a career in the field. “I accidentally fell in love with my career.”

After graduating from GHS in 2007, Ronquest earned her associate’s degree in business management from Rappahannock Community College and started preparing taxes for a big chain company.

“I worked there for 14 years,” she said.

However, owning and operating her own business has always been her dream, having grown up with several entrepreneurs in her own family.

“It’s in my blood,” said Ronquest. “I kind of grew up around people who were self-employed.”

Tidewater Taxes primarily focuses on taxes for individuals and small businesses. Ronquest also has experience in military, multi-state and rental home tax returns. She can also help people plan for the future and provide information for individuals who are looking to start a business.

“My goal is to help people get the best tax situation possible,” she said.

Tidewater Taxes is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The office is closed each day from 2-3 p.m.

“I’m always taking new clients,” said Ronquest.

All services are currently being performed by appointment only. Appointments can be made online at tidewatertaxes.com or by phone at 804-923-3777. The office accepts both in-person and virtual appointments.

“I can come to them too if they can’t come to the office,” she said.

By special request, clients can also make appointments for evenings and Saturdays.

“I love numbers and helping people,” said Ronquest.

Ronquest lives locally with her family. She has two boys, 13 and 11, who stay active with youth soccer and baseball. Ronquest volunteers with Gloucester Parks and Recreation programs and stays involved with her church. The family also participates with the Court House Players. Ronquest has lived in Gloucester for most of her life.

“We’re always busy,” said Ronquest.

Upon entering her office, clients can feel a warm welcome with a splash of yellow paint and several pieces of artwork from local vendors.

“I like supporting local businesses,” said Ronquest.

Ronquest is set to graduate with her bachelor’s degree in business management at Brigham Young University-Idaho, this year. She will then pursue her master’s degree in accounting to fulfill her goal of becoming a certified public accountant (CPA), which she hopes to complete over the next few years.

“I just love it,” said Ronquest about her accounting career. “It’s like a puzzle for me.”
