Tidewater Sew-Vac holds jeans recycling event

Tidewater Sew-Vac, located at White Marsh Shopping Center, will hold a jeans recycling project from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13.

This will be the first time the store has held such an event, said manager George Akers of James Store. Representatives from sewing machine company Brother will lead the program.

Akers said this hands-on program where participants will bring in a pair of jeans and recycle then into a stylish, fun, one-of-a-kind apron. Each person who attends the program should bring a pair of used jeans (size 14 or larger, any color), regular sewing thread to coordinate with the jeans, scissors to cut thread, and favorite sewing tools.

"We’ll provide the sewing machine," Akers said. Featured will be the Innovis NX-2000, which a flyer said has automatic height adjustment, built-in decorative stitches, couching, and a large extension table, among other features.
