Three local residents graduate from Virginia State Police Academy

Two Gloucester residents and a resident of Middlesex were among the 40 new Virginia State Police Troopers who graduated from the State Police Academy on Friday.
During the 27-week 134th Basic Session, the trainees were instructed in more than 100 different subjects spanning hundreds of hours. The training included such areas as crime scene investigation, survival Spanish, judicial procedures, self-defense, cultural diversity, and firearms.
The new local troopers include Lewis C. Johnston, 26, and Daniel J. Wright, 23, both of Gloucester. Johnston is a volunteer firefighter with Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue and will begin his VSP career in Hampton and Newport News.
Wright holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal psychology from Liberty University and his first patrol area will be in Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
Trooper Mikella M. Fuccella, 25, is a resident of Hartfield. A Virginia Army National Guard veteran, she will begin her VSP career in Gloucester.
