Thomas joins county planning staff

Heather Thomas of Mathews is the new administrative assistant and zoning technician for Mathews County Planning and Zoning. She began working on Feb. 22.
Thomas said she is responsible for general office duties as well as helping residents who have requests regarding their property or zoning changes. She came to the position with a decade of experience as an office coordinator for a system of urgent care facilities, most recently working in an office in Tappahannock. A Gloucester native, Thomas is married to Josh Thomas, also a Gloucester native, who works for the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources.
Thomas said her family moved to Mathews because of the county’s strong sense of community and its school system. She and her husband have two children—a girl, 12, and a boy, 5.
