Thomas Garrett Willis, 94, of Newport News, passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2011.

Born May 22, 1917 in King and Queen County, he retired in 1982 from the Newport News Shipbuilding, Main Power House, after 29 years of service.

Garry was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Alice Harwood Willis; his son, Thomas Harwood Willis, and two brothers.

He leaves behind his daughter, Barbara Willis; brother, Paul Willis, and two sisters, Marjorie Sears and Sue Willis.

The family received friends Monday from 7-8 p.m. at Riverside-Altmeyer Funeral Home, Newport News. A funeral service was held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Bob Gochenour, followed by burial in Peninsula Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church, 1024 Harpersville Road, Newport News, Va. 23601.

Riverside-Altmeyer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
