Mathews Registrar Carla Faulkner said things have been busy in her office since a third-party group sent out a mailer providing Virginia voters with paperwork to apply for vote-by-mail ballots. After processing applications for a number of days, she still had a stack of 50 on her desk on Tuesday afternoon.
Although certain localities in Virginia have had a problem with the applications, said Faulkner, there is nothing wrong with the ones she has seen. They’re exactly the same as Virginia Department of Elections applications, they contain valid information, and she has accepted all of the ones that she has received.
“The ones we’ve seen are fine,” she said. “Although we didn’t send them out, we can accept them.”
Faulkner said the localities in Virginia that have had problems with the mailer are cities and counties that share the same name, such as Fairfax City and Fairfax County, Richmond City and Richmond County, and others. In those localities, some ballot applications are going to th...
