The Haunting of the Hudgins House

The Haunting of Hudgins House in Mathews is an eerie tale that dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Hudgins House is a Mathews County Historical Landmark and is now known as Hummock Hall.
Located off Tabernacle Road, the home was built in the 1800s making the house about 200 years old. The home was bought nearly a century after its construction by Capt. Augustine (Gus) F. Hudgins, who was well known to the community as the “Light House Keeper.” 
During his duties as a lighthouse keeper, he took a leave of absence to address disturbances that were occurring within his home. It is said that a spirit began to haunt his home as well as torment his wife, Molly, and their children.
The current owner, Robert Petersen, was warned by the real estate agent that the house was haunted prior to his buying the home in 2003.
“When I bought it, I was told that it was haunted and I thought that was rather interesting, “ said Petersen.
