The worn-out racing shell, known as the “Gumbie,” is now a hanging decoration in the popular restaurant’s Banquet Room. Lewis rowed for MHS through 1995 and has fond memories of his time on the rowing team. “I credit MHS and Mobjack rowing programs for the lessons they taught in life skills and the work ethic it instilled in me,” said Lewis. Southwind will host a banquet in this room on May 12 following the induction of Ulsaker into the MHS Hall of Fame. MHS and MRA alums and friends of Ulsaker are welcome to share in this event and crew participants are encouraged to put their signatures on the Gumbie. The story involves a second MHS alum named Jonathan—Jonathan Lowe (whom Ulsaker also taught in auto mechanics) painted the Gumbie for Lewis.
