EDITOR’S NOTE: The following story was written by a sixth grade homeschool student from Gloucester, a tale of a giant who loved daffodils.
Once upon a time, there was a large and mighty giant named Stone. He was very fond of flowers, but his favorite were daffodils.
He thought he was the last of his kind, but there was one other giant left in the world and her name was River. All the other giants had leapt onto another planet because the humans were hunting them, almost causing extinction. But Stone and River loved Earth, so they stayed and went into hiding.
Stone was walking through Canada when he spotted River! He was so excited to realize he was not alone on Earth. He ran all the way to Antarctica and he finally caught up to River.
He said, out of breath, “Phew, I finally caught up.”
River heard him and turned around. “What was that?” she said.
And they both, in astonishment, said, “OMG!” So Stone and River talked and talked until midnight.
