The Mathews High School indoor track team has been competing since December with good results.
So far this season, two student-athletes have qualified for the 2023 Class 1A/2A State Indoor Track and Field championships at Liberty University—senior Sarah Taylor and her brother, sophomore Keith Taylor.
Sarah has qualified in the 55m hurdles and the high jump. Keith has qualified in the high jump, long jump, and 500m run. While these are the only two so far, there are several others on the verge of qualifying.
Among those on the verge are sophomores Gavin Dustin, Seth James, and Haley Hoell and freshman Nora Suthard. This year’s edition of Mathews indoor track is also very young with a strong showing from eighth graders Zac Salvatori, Carlos Clayborn Jr., Samuel Miranda, Stanley Omwa, James Allan Morgan, Jordan Sadeq, Harmony Smith and seventh grader Elizabeth Moore.
