The Gloucester Genealogical Society of Virginia and the Guinea Heritage Association will hold a special joint May meeting at 10 a.m. Monday at the Buck’s Store Museum, Bena.
For the GGSV, this will serve as the group’s regularly scheduled May meeting; however, for the GHA it will replace their regular Fourth Friday program for May. The meeting is free and open to the public.
The special joint program this month will feature Newport News-based genealogist and local historian Merle Kimball, who served as president of Hugh S. Watson Jr., Genealogical Society of Tidewater Virginia from 2015 through 2021 and is their Librarian and Quarterly Editor.
In her presentation, “Identifying Old Photographs,” Kimball will share guidelines, tips and suggestions for identifying the types of old photos (thereby more correctly identifying the timeframe of the picture), possibly determining the picture’s background (school, church, residence, etc.), and then by using your own well-developed family tree, h...
