On Monday morning, October 9, 2023, Tab Warwick went to join his Heavenly band and all suffering was gone. “Absent from the body, present with the Lord” —2 Corinthians 5:8.
A native of Charlottesville, Virginia, he had been a resident of Mathews County since 1974. He graduated from Mathews High School in 1981 and attended Christopher Newport University. He was known as a progressive percussionist, brilliant musical talent and producer in music circles including studio, theater, and concert stage. Tab performed and toured the United States working with numerous bands. He was most proud of winning a National Drum Contest in 1985 and being chosen to tour with Michael Winslow in 2001.
He is survived by his “Sugar Turtle,” Susan Hernandez of Gwynn’s Island; his children, Tabitha Warwick of Mathews and Elijah Warwick of Tucson, Ariz.; grandsons, Jackson Warwick and Zachary Harder; his siblings, Trey Warwick (Becky) and Tania Warwick, and his uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at a later date. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia, is assisting the family.
