Symphony Under the Stars draws 1,100-1,200

Gloucester Arts Festival and the Virginia Commission for the Arts held the annual “Symphony Under the Stars” free family concert Saturday night, featuring the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. According to festival director Elizabeth Blackney, an estimated 1,100-1,200 people were in attendance.
The night began with local group Liberty Dolls as the opening act at 6 o’clock. The Virginia Symphony Orchestra took the stage at eight, performing water-themed songs. Popular tracks included Alan Menken’s “Part of Your World” from “The Little Mermaid,” Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana” and John Williams’s “The Shark Theme” from “Jaws.”
The symphony was conducted by Helen Martell and the vocalist was Angelica Michelle.
Several of the festival’s plein air artist were in attendance, painting the symphony.
