Sylvia Brooks Smith, age 88, of Mathews, Va., passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014.

She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, the Lilly Hopkins Circle, and the William Davis Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey “Charlie” Smith; a daughter, Marsha Ann Smith; her parents, William Grady and Violet Hudgins Brooks, and a brother, Clayborne Brooks.

Sylvia is survived by two sons, A. Wayne (Laura) Smith of Mathews, and William A. (Christine) Smith of Moon, Va.; a daughter, Nancy Haywood Pitts (Chuck) of Isle of Wight, Va.; two sisters, Pauline Arnett and Juanita Long, both of Mathews, and one brother, Hugh Brooks (Sara Ann) of Mathews; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four nieces, and five nephews. 

The family received friends on Friday, June 6, 2014, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews. A funeral service was held on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel and burial followed in Pear Tree Cemetery, Onemo, Va.
