Susan Lora McGuire Sorey of Port Haywood, Va., was born on March 28, 1948 in Panama to the late William Winston McGuire and Lora Herron McGuire. Susan departed this world on Dec. 2, 2013.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Howard Wesley Sorey and their children, Judy Lassiter (Vince), Robby Sorey (Tracey), Wendy Byrns (Chris), Kim Way (Bill), Shane Sorey, Jenny Sorey, and Shanna Chandler (Don); her grandchildren, Whitney, Andrea, Melissa, Abbie, Emily, Taylor, Logan, Connor, Matt, Grayson, C.W., Justin, Patrick, Indigo, Lora, and Lenna, and her three great-grandsons.
Susan achieved a lifetime goal when she graduated magna cum laude from Thomas Nelson as a nurse. She was awarded an honorary lifetime member of the PTA, was a Girl Scout leader for 15 years, and was a dedicated volunteer in many community service and school programs. She was an active member of Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
She said she was the richest woman alive because of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family received friends on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va. A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at 2 p.m. in Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
