Susan Elaine Sparrer, age 63, of Gloucester, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Susan was born in Tennessee on April 3, 1961.

She deeply loved her family and eagerly anticipated going to North Carolina and the Outer Banks to be with them. She also deeply loved her friends and enjoyed playing board games and going to musicals with them, as well as crafting and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor Murray Burris, and her brother, Dan Burris. Susan is survived by her husband, John “David” Sparrer; son, Tavis Howard Sparrer; daughter, Wendelle Faith Sparrer (Conor Ginnell); father, James “Jay” Burris; brother, David Burris (Debbie); nieces and nephews, Vincent, Sara, Joshua, and Lilah. Her mother-in-law, Sharon Rowe (Larry Christy); father-in-law, Wendell Sparrer (Ava); sister-in-law, Deborah Sparrer (Emil Larkin), and other loving extended family also survive her.

MS Research at tischms.org. She fought hard with her MS, and her brother, Dan, also had this devastating disease. She was hopeful in stem cell research, which this nonprofit does.

Children’s National Hospital Foundation at https://foundation.childrensnational.org. Cancer greatly impacted her family, and she was very proud that her son conducts childhood cancer research at this hospital.

Susan was very concerned about the environment and her remains will be composted. Her family plans on having a small memorial ceremony to celebrate her life once this process is completed.
