At its March monthly meeting, the Abingdon Ruritan Club presented donations to the American Legion Post 75, Gloucester, and its Auxiliary in support of the Girls State, Boys State and Youth Cadet Law Enforcement programs. Post adjutant Rick Ward, center, was on hand to receive the donations—$425 for Girls State; $400 for Boys State and $200 for Youth Law Enforcement. Presenting Ward with the checks are Mary Lou Shepherd and Don Sciria. American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State are summer leadership and citizenship programs for high school juniors, which focus on exploring the mechanics of American government and politics. The law enforcement program introduces youth to the field of law enforcement’s principles, discipline, ethics, physical fitness and teamwork.
