Supporting Mathews schools

Members of the Mathews Lions Club recently made a $300 donation to the Mathews County Public Schools, intended as discretionary money for each school principal, a release said. Club president Conrad Bareford, at left, and club secretary Linda Hodges, at right, make the presentation to Dr. David S. Daniel, superintendent of Mathews County Schools. Donations such as this are made possible through many Lions Club fundraisers held throughout the year. One such fundraiser is the club’s annual Gerald Jones Pork Butt Sale where a whole smoked pork butt is available for purchase for $40 per pork butt. This is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5. Tickets should be purchased in advance. Tickets are available through club members, the Mathews County Visitor Center or by calling 804-505-1361.
