The first supermoon of the season appeared in the night sky on Saturday. The phenomenon occurs when the moon is full on the same night it is closest in its orbit to Earth. Becky Barnhardt of Mathews shot this photo of the moon over the Chesapeake Bay at Aaron’s Beach. She said she often takes photos at the beach and knew she wanted the pilings in the foreground before she went down there.
