Mathews County Public Schools nurses attended the Summer Institute for School Nursing on July 15-16 in Charlottesville. The mission of the Summer Institute for School Nursing is to foster evidence-based practice in the school setting and promote competency in school nursing. Updates were presented by the Virginia Department of Health and Virginia Department of Education with an emphasis on mental health education. A total of 242 nurses from across the state were in attendance. Representing Mathews at the institute were Patricia Lewis, RN (Mathews High), Laura Mills, RN, BSN (Thomas Hunter Middle School), and Catherine Owens, RN (Mathews Elementary).
