A hearing on the case of George Jones, David Jones and JB Property Development LLC, complainants, versus the County of Mathews, Thomas Jenkins and Jamie Wilks, defendants, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 14, in Gloucester Circuit Court.
The matter concerns David Jones, then chairman of the Mathews County Board of Supervisors and currently a board member, who, along with his brother George, brought the $3.3 million lawsuit against the county and its two former employees last April. In it, they made a claim of defamation of character and malicious prosecution against the three defendants and requested $2,250,450 in compensatory damages and $350,000 per defendant in punitive damages. They asked for a jury trial.
According to papers filed in Mathews Circuit Court on Feb. 20, the defendants will bring for hearing their demurrer, plea of statute of limitation, plea of sovereign immunity, and plea in bar of statutory and common law immunity, which were filed last July.
