The Steamboat Era Museum in Irvington will present the second session of its Second Saturday Series at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 11. The public is invited to hear speakers talk about the Steamboat Era and Chesapeake Bay heritage at the museum.
The session, titled “Remembering Robert H. Burgess,” will feature a discussion about the life and accomplishments of the former Chesapeake Bay historian, curator, author, photographer, freelance writer, woodcarver and lecturer. Burgess was bestowed the title of Dean of the Chesapeake by his peers and contemporaries.
His son, R. Bruce Burgess, and naval architect and author William A. Fox will lead the presentation. Drawing from their personal knowledge and acquaintance of the senior Burgess, they will highlight, through recollections and images, Burgess’s early life, lifelong career and his important documentation of commercial sail and steam on the bay during the 20th century.
