Stanley Charles Basta Jr., 76, of Gloucester, died May 30, 2014 at Riverside Convalescent Center, Mathews.
Stanley was a self-employed contractor and a master craftsman in trim carpentry. He also contracted industrial and commercial building and was a superintendent for Atlantic Homes, Newport News.
Stanley was a member of Providence Baptist Church, the Gloucester Lions Club and Gloucester Moose Lodge and a life member of AFS. He loved his family and holiday family gatherings. His life was well lived and his absence in all our lives will be deeply mourned. May his wonderful spirit live on and may his memory be eternal.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Julia Blair Moore.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Garnett L. Basta; daughter, Gwen Basta Thomassen (Paul); sons, Scott Basta and Duane Basta (Lisa); grandchildren, Scott Basta II, Tony Tillage, Kalob Basta and Finley Basta; sisters, Cecelia Kusek and Mary Hogge; great-grandchildren, Logan, Ryan and Liam, and a very special family friend, Karen Fox.
A funeral service conducted by the Rev. Richard Croxton and the Rev. Rita Staul was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Providence Baptist Church. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family received friends prior to the service on Wednesday from noon-1 p.m. at the church.
