Standoff with suspect ends peacefully

Gloucester deputies were engaged in an approximately seven-hour standoff last week with a suspect, eventually ending in the successful removal of the subject without any injuries, Maj. Ryan Cookson of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office reported.
A 34-year-old Gloucester man was charged with possession or transportation of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, assault and battery, abduction or kidnapping, wearing a mask with the intent to conceal his identity and brandishing a firearm.
The charges stem from an incident on the evening of Tuesday, July 9. Deputies were called to the Wendy’s restaurant located in the 7100 block of George Washington Memorial Highway, regarding the brandishing of a firearm. The victim indicated that a former employee who was terminated roughly one month prior, entered the business around 7:15 p.m. through an unsecured rear door and was concealing his identity wearing a Halloween style mask, Cookson reported.
