Cobbs Creek resident Jason Hess is steps closer to opening the doors of St. Thomas Anglican Mission in Mathews. The church will be housed in the former Oak Grove Christian Church building in Mobjack, once necessary repairs are made.
Hess knew from the time he was a high school junior that he wanted to be a minister. However, his calling to serve the Anglican Church has taken a few twists and turns along the way.
He started out attending an Assemblies of God Church and he and his wife, Myra, became active in the youth ministry there. In 2003, Hess was hired as a full-time youth pastor at an Assemblies of God Church in North Carolina and then took a similar position at a church in Mesa, Arizona.
The family moved here in December 2005 and Hess took a job as the high school-age youth pastor at Lighthouse Worship Center, Ordinary. He stayed at the church through 2007, and at that time, his desire to plant a church began to manifest.
