The Church of St. Therese, Main Street, Gloucester, has twinned with a community in Haiti to provide financial support to Saint Joseph of Losabeilles Elementary School.
“This is a totally new endeavor for us,” said Father Gregory Kandt.
Charles Patullo, a member of the pastoral counsel, was inspired by other Roman Catholic churches in the area partnering with villages in Africa. Many churches twin with Haitian communities through the Catholic Diocese of Richmond.
A Portsmouth church had twinned with two Haitian communities, but had to drop one. St. Therese took over for the other church earlier this fall.“Education is important to bring light to such a dark country,” said Patullo.
St. Therese will send money through the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, which will then send the funds electronically to Haiti.
