Members of St. James On-the-Glebe Anglican Church, Gloucester, gathered on Sept. 16 to begin building the “Chicken Coop” chapel addition.
The group met at 8 a.m. for prayers and then made a plan for raising the three new walls and roof, which will tie into the current structure. The addition will allow the church to gather in one assembly, rather than having some congregants in a side area, which is the current arrangement.
In the afternoon, members cleaned up their work and were able to enjoy local beer, a whole pig roasted on site, line dancing and bounce houses.As the chapel is expanded, the church is gathering in the Carriage House for services, Sunday school and weekly potluck lunches.
