Giving to others has been the moving force, for more than 30 years, of the Central Village Homemakers in Mathews.
Homemaker appeared in the English language in 1875, defined as one who handles household responsibilities. This group of ladies fulfills what the dictionaries say but have added a few new lines. One member of this club once defined her organization best when she wrote: “The Central Village Homemakers are women who are committed to improving the community through their personal creativity.”
To the community they have given a MHS student scholarship merit award, Mathews 4-H Scholarship, worked with Meals on Wheels and have contributed to the Ruritan Blessing Fund. They have assisted the Gloucester-Mathews Care Clinic, Mathews Senior Center, Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Mathews Cafeteria Fund which provides meals for children in need; MHS Robotics Team, MHS After Prom Party and Triad Seniors. And there are always sudden and unexpected needs or emergencie...
