Kim Genduso, owner of The Vintage Pearl store in Mathews, knows that the holidays can be a challenging time for many people—“from not having something clean and pleasant to wear to a family dinner, or going without a tree or food, and lots more,” she wrote on a Facebook post. On Christmas Eve morning, she set out to do something about it. Along the sidewalk in front of her store, she set up a wide selection of men’s and women’s clothes, some new still with tags, and household items like blankets and sheets—and provided them all for free for anyone who needed them.
