Alison Zak, founder and executive director of the Human-Beaver Coexistence Fund, is the featured speaker at the Friends of Dragon Run November meeting at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24. The meeting will be held on Zoom; a Zoom link will be posted on DragonRun.org.
Zak’s presentation will provide a history of human interactions with beavers over time, an overview of beaver ecology and behavior, and an exploration of the benefits that beavers and the wetlands they create contribute to the health of our watersheds, landscapes, and communities. The presentation will discuss practical, effective, and nonlethal methods for managing beaver-caused problems like tree damage and flooding.
Zak studied human-wildlife conflict in graduate school, then worked for six years in environmental education before founding HBCF.
