Spay/Neuter saves lives

Did you know that February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month? Spay/Neuter Awareness Month was established to address the issue of pet overpopulation and reduce the number of homeless animals. Spay and neuter is win-win-win. The individual animals win because they live longer, healthier, happier lives. The owners win because they are doing the best thing for their beloved pet. And our community wins because we no longer have unwanted animals abandoned and filling our shelters. There is no better way to show your pets love than by having them fixed!
Since January of 2018, Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society has owned and operated Fixin’ to Save Spay & Neuter Clinic in Gloucester. The clinic offers low and no cost veterinarian-performed sterilization surgeries for healthy cats and dogs. In 2024 alone, Fixin’ to Save altered 4,541 pets—record-breaking year. That’s an increase of 364 surgeries since 2023! These pets include shelter and rescue animals, public pets, and community cats.
