Spartans wrap up first semi-pro football season

The Gloucester County Spartans semi-pro football team is on the verge of wrapping up its inaugural season with only one week left of play.
The Spartans are owned and were founded by Austin Hudgins of Gloucester and compete in the American Football Federation in the Virginia West Division of the Northern Conference.
Hudgins founded the Spartans as way to offer organized sports to the young adult population of the area. The sport is for players 18 years of age and up. He said a lot of these kids are fresh out of high school, guys who weren’t able to play in college or people fresh out of the military who are still looking for that structure in their lives.
The team came about from Hudgins wanting to build something where individuals could find those to look to as role models or father figures. He knows the importance of having a father figure as he didn’t have one growing.
