Some churches reopen for in-person services

Churches in Virginia began to reopen Sunday as part of Phase 1 of the governor’s reopening plan. A number of local churches opened their doors for in-person services this week and many are making plans to reopen in the weeks to come.

According to a release, Mathews Baptist Church, Hudgins, reopened its doors Sunday for both its 9 a.m. contemporary worship service held in the multipurpose building and its 11 a.m. traditional worship service held in the sanctuary with specific guidelines in place.
The church allowed family members to sit together but all others were seated six feet apart. Ushers were available to help with seating. Face masks were encouraged, but not mandatory.
According to the release, a thorough cleaning and disinfecting of worship areas, bathrooms and doors was conducted prior to and following services. Hand sanitizer was available at the entrance.
