Three informants had figured out this photo by the end of Thursday, when the paper came out asking for information. We thank Herbert Hudgins, Sue Greene and Nancy Layng for their contributions. Here is a summary of information from these individuals and from other comments made on the photo online. The image was taken at Sandbank, New Point, probably around 1950. It’s the rig of Captain Lemuel Hutson, a pound netter, whose fishing boat can be seen in the right background. Capt. Hutson and his crew are loading or unloading a pound net between the mule cart and the skiff, known as a towboat. The net may have been taken in for cleaning of marine growth. Facebook commenter Amanda Pugh, consulting her father Johnny Pugh, said, “I’m also pretty sure that the third person from the left in the cart is James Belvin.” Another commenter identified Horace Jarvis in the middle of the photo.
