Martha Hayes, at left, a member of Smithfield Baptist Church in Gloucester beginning at the age of 9 and now a member of its successor, the Church of Abraham, oversees an exhibit of Smithfield’s history, including a church pew installed when the church was established in 1880, during the first Smithfield Day at the Church of Abraham. She is joined by the Church of Abraham’s pastor, Sheron Green. Below, the day was celebrated with food, fellowship, a variety of vendors selling their wares, inflatable bounce houses for children, and an address by Dr. Dorothy C. Cooke of Bethel Church, from which Smithfield Baptist was founded.
