Li’l Ole Opry drummer Richard Smith will step out from behind the drum set to be the featured performer at Saturday’s show at Mathews High School’s Harry M. Ward Auditorium. The Virginia Li’l Ole Opry show begins at 8 p.m.; doors open at 7:30.
A Mathews native, Smith will perform a selection of rockabilly and soulful, blues-filled country music in his tribute to Travis Tritt, a country legend who made his debut in the country music world in the early 1990s.
Smith is expected to perform some of Tritt’s chart-topping hits, such as “Country Club,” “Anymore,” “Put Some Drive in Your Country” and “It’s a Great Day to Be Alive.”
The Opry singers and band will perform in the first half of Saturday’s show, and Smith will take the stage with the Opry band after intermission.
